Information for Estate & Letting Agents
A Safe Space to Ask for Help
At Broxtowe Women’s Project, we understand that home should feel safe.
However, for some women, interactions around housing, moving home, tenancy issues, finances, separation or property appointments may be linked to experiences of domestic abuse, control or economic abuse.
Estate and letting agents are often trusted professionals who may notice when someone seems frightened, controlled, withdrawn or unable to speak freely.
A simple conversation, poster, leaflet or discreet signposting opportunity can make a real difference.
Signs Someone May Need Support
Domestic abuse is not always physical and may not always be obvious.
You may notice someone:
- Appearing anxious, frightened or withdrawn
- Being constantly monitored or spoken over by a partner
- Struggling to access finances or documentation
- Needing permission to speak or make decisions
- Suddenly needing to move urgently
- Showing signs of coercive or controlling behaviour within a relationship
- Seeming isolated or lacking support
- Expressing concerns around safety at home
- Repeatedly changing contact details or cancelling appointments
You are not expected to be an expert or investigate concerns.
Simply knowing support exists and how to signpost safely can help.
Safe & Discreet Ways to Share Information
We understand safety and confidentiality are essential.
Some discreet ways estate and letting agents can support include:
- Displaying posters in toilets or private areas
- Including support information within tenant packs or moving guides
- Adding discreet messaging to appointment reminders or email footers
- Making information available in interview rooms or waiting areas
- Sharing information during tenancy or safeguarding conversations
- Providing staff awareness training
