Let’s Break the Silence on Suicide
At Broxtowe Women’s Project, we know that many women and families face overwhelming emotional pressures, isolation, trauma, anxiety and mental health struggles.
Talking about suicide can feel difficult, but silence can leave people feeling even more alone.
That’s why we are supporting Nottingham and Nottinghamshire’s suicide prevention campaign: Let’s Break the Silence on Suicide helping to normalise conversations around suicide, reduce stigma and encourage people to seek support when they need it.
You Are Not Alone
Life can feel heavy at times and many people experience thoughts of hopelessness or feeling unable to cope.
The campaign highlights that:
- 1 in 5 people will experience suicidal thoughts at some point in their lives
- Talking openly about suicide can help save lives
- A simple conversation can make a real difference
At Broxtowe Women’s Project, we want women to know:
- It is okay not to feel okay
- You do not have to face things alone
- Support is available
- Asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness
Signs Someone May Be Struggling
Sometimes people may:
- Withdraw from others
- Appear overwhelmed or emotionally exhausted
- Lose confidence or hope
- Seem unusually quiet or isolated
- Say they feel trapped or unable to cope
- Stop engaging with friends, family or support services
You do not need to have the “perfect words” to support someone.
Checking in, listening without judgement and encouraging someone to seek support can be incredibly powerful. The campaign reinforces that “talking about suicide doesn’t cause harm, it breaks silence and saves lives.”
Support Available
If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available. If you need urgent help, you can call NottAlone on 0808 196 3779 to speak to a mental health professional 24/7, or call 999.

How You Can Start a Conversation
The campaign encourages simple ways to reach out:
- Say: “I need help”
- Text someone you trust
- Share how you’re feeling
- Show pictures, music or feelings cards that reflect your emotions
Even a small conversation could mean everything.
Together, we can help break the silence around suicide and remind people that hope and support are available.
