Our Commitment to Inclusion: Everyone Deserves to Feel Heard

At Broxtowe Women’s Project, we believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, respected and supported.

As we recognise National Inclusion Week, we’re reaffirming our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion – not just for one week, but throughout the work we do every day.

Inclusion matters in domestic abuse support

We know that people’s experiences are different, and so are the barriers they may face when seeking support.

Language, disability, age, culture, caring responsibilities, financial circumstances and individual experiences can all affect whether someone feels able to ask for help and whether that help feels accessible to them.

For BWP, being inclusive means more than saying “everyone is welcome.”

It means listening and learning. It means recognising barriers and considering what we can do differently. And it means continually working to create services and spaces where people are treated with dignity, respect and compassion.

Language matters

This also connects closely with an important theme running through our work this year: language.

The words we use matter.

They can make someone feel excluded or included. They can challenge stereotypes and assumptions. They can help someone feel understood – and sometimes, the right words and the right response can help someone feel safe enough to speak.

That’s why we will continue to listen to the people and communities around us and look at how we communicate, work in partnership and deliver our services.

Creating genuinely inclusive communities and services isn’t the responsibility of one person or organisation.

It requires all of us to listen, learn, challenge barriers and be willing to do things differently.

This National Inclusion Week, we’re proud to reaffirm that commitment.

Because everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard, understood and supported.

💜 It Takes All of Us.
