Design Competition Winners Sparkle this RSE Day

The winners of a children’s art competition were announced this week, with the dazzling designs on display in Beeston Library to coincide with Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Day.

In a competition organised by the NSPCC and Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP), children in schools across Nottinghamshire were asked to design a pair of pants for the NSPCC’s Talk Pants mascot, Pantosaurus.

Linking with the theme for this year’s Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) Day across Nottinghamshire on 30 June, the children’s designs celebrated differences, and showed that everyone can sparkle.

The winning entry in the City KS1 category was designed by Klara (left,below) from Middleton School, Wollaton, and featured firework sparkles in Pantosaurus’s favourite colours: green, pink, orange and yellow.

Annie (right above) won the County KS1 category with her design showing the flags of the world and children from different countries all holding hands.

Other winning pupils attend Glade Hill Primary School Bestwood Park, Middleton Primary School in Wollaton, Chetwynd Spencer Academy in Toton, St Edmund Campion Primary School in West Bridgford and Ranby CofE Primary School in Retford.

Chris Harris, Partnerships Manager at Broxtowe Women’s Project which supports women, children and young people in Broxtowe who have experienced Domestic Abuse, said: “The winning designs are really incredible – and truly sparkle. We were delighted that so many children joined in, as this was a fun way to get people talking about important messages this RSE Day.”

“Each winner will receive a Pantosaurus plush toy, story book and game. We will also select one of the winning settings for a visit from Pantosaurus himself.”

Rachel Wallace, NSPCC Local Campaigns Manager, added: ““It was great to have so many schools and community groups taking part in this competition and to see the fantastic creativity of the children in the city and the county.

“Talking PANTS is a simple way to help keep children safe from abuse without using any scary words and we’re really pleased that children have taken this opportunity to keep talking PANTS.”
